This paper deals with a legal analysis of the European area of freedom, security and justice, arising from the Treaty of Lisbon. Your application and configuration, highlights the evolution of competences, the Union and Member States, in terms of control of the European external borders. In this work, is considered the European space has proved its effectiveness to control the arrival of immigrants to European soil. Given the usefulness of these legal mechanisms that the EU has set, it is expected that, in the coming years, its legal development will allow correct some of the dysfunctions that have shown so far.
