The Foundation for economic development and Social Hispano-Moroccan (FHIMADES) is established in Melilla in April 2005 with the aim of promoting socio-economic development opportunities between Spain and Morocco, a few months after the enactment of the European neighbourhood policy. The Board of Trustees is the highest organ of Government of the Foundation and is made up of academic and business representatives whose responsibility is to ensure the fulfillment of the Foundation’s purposes and the efficient management of resources. Since its formation, the Foundation maintains a continuous schedule of events and activities to enhance the existing neighbourhood relations between Melilla and the neighbouring Morocco. These relationships, though unknown outside this area of the Mediterranean, can certainly contribute to improving the welfare of Spain and Morocco who live along the external border of the European Union.
