After decades of relative stagnation, the Mediterranean basin is in turmoil. A lot of trends and developments in the Middle East and North Africa has caused or accelerated by geopolitical changes that could affect Europe’s relations with the region in the coming years. The EU and its Member States have made a great effort to adapt a “response” to the revolts of 2011. However, not looking at them in the context of a larger power shift, the policies of the EU have not incorporated the strategic vision required to fix Europe’s position on the future of relations with the region.
