Recent advances of Western countries in cooperation, information and technology for the management of irregular migration are analyzed in the light of the security concerns expressed by attacks by Islamic jihadists in the West. Lessons learned from investigations of the recent Islamist attacks have influenced the debate and initiatives regarding the control of flows of people. Although immigration policies have not been altered in its objectives, the reforms and measures discussed and addressed during the last months show a tendency toward a new formulation of management and an improvement of the instruments that are used to control the transit of persons across borders.
