Objective:

The Straits of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea concentrated much of traffic sources of energy that goes to the EU. In addition to the maritime traffic of oil tankers and gasisticos, this area of the Mediterranean is of power between Spain and Morocco (and connections between Spain and Morocco and between Spain and Algeria gas. Previous flows, it is necessary to add projects as the electrical interconnection between Spain and Algeria, requested repeatedly by the latter country, and between the Peninsula and Melilla, proposed recently by this autonomous city. Finally, the existing project of electricity production in the Sahara desert to supply electricity to mainland Europe is a project that is increasingly more favorable reviews.

In this context it seems clear that, only by their contribution to ensure the energy supply of the countries involved, this area of the Mediterranean is key to the well-being and development of the European Union. These sessions aim to analyse in depth the strategic importance of the Strait for the EU in a twofold, economic and energy.

Methodology:

Lectures and Debate society with the participation of leading figures of the social, economic, political and military level.

Place:

4 and 5 October. Hotel Tryp Melilla Puerto.

Format:

Brief presentation of topics (maximum 35 minutes per speaker) followed by a debate open to the public.
